John Harbaugh is just a few weeks into his first year coaching the New York Giants, and he's already dealing with what's pretty much every head coach's nightmare: an injured quarterback. Jaxson Dart went down during the team's game on Monday against the Los Angeles Rams, and he's expected to be out for the entire season with a knee injury.
Specifically, Dart suffered a lot of damage to his left knee, including a torn or damaged meniscus, MCL and PCL. He's getting surgery and will be out for the remainder of the regular season.
However, it's not all doom and gloom. Amid this update, Harbaugh shared some good news on Dart.
Jaxson Dart could return for the New York Giants' playoff run
The Giants are hoping to get to the postseason for the first time since 2022 under Harbaugh's direction. If they do, they could have Dart back. That's what the head coach told reporters on Wednesday.
"John Harbaugh announces that Jaxson Dart will miss the entire 2026 regular season," Harbaugh said, according to Giants beat reporter Connor Hughes. "He will have surgery and land on the injured reserve. Harbaugh doesn’t rule Dart out for the postseason, if the #Giants were to make the playoffs."
So, if the Giants make the postseason, and that's a big if, but if that happens, they could have Dart back. It would be pretty awesome to see this player make his big comeback during the postseason, but at the same time, if this team does well enough under another quarterback to even get that far, one has to wonder if it's worth having that quarterback finish out the season and see how far they can go.
