Oklahoma DT David Stone injured in practice, could play vs. Georgia

Oklahoma defensive tackle David Stone's injury wasn't as bad as initially feared.

Oklahoma coach Brent Venables said Tuesday that Stone ran his left knee into a scout-team player during a jog-through and it "kind of popped out." Venables said X-rays were positive, which based on the way he said it, meant there was no break. Venables said Stone's pain level was two out of 10 and did not rule him out of Saturday's game at Georgia.

Stone, a 6-foot-3, 315-pound junior, was an Associated Press preseason first-team All-American who is expected to go early in the 2027 NFL Draft. Even if it's minor, it's the worst possible time for the injury -- Georgia leads the nation with 59.3 points per game.

Stone has 12 tackles, two tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks this season. Last season, he had 42 tackles and eight tackles for loss. He's a key part of one of the nation's top statistical defenses.

Fifth-year additions Bishop Thomas and Braxton Fely are listed behind Stone on the latest depth chart.
