The New York Giants enter a season full of pressure coming off a 3-14 campaign.
As general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll fight for their jobs in 2025, some tough decisions will need to be made.
Following the emergence of Tyrone Tracy Jr. in 2024 and after adding Cam Skattebo to the backfield during the 2025 NFL Draft, there's a chance New York parts ways with a veteran in the running back room.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report suggested Devin Singletary could be on the chopping block after those recent developments.
"A year ago, the New York Giants signed Devin Singletary to a three-year, $16.5 million contract, hoping that he could adequately replace Saquon Barkley. However, rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. proved to be New York's best back, and the Giants added Cam Skattebo in this year's draft," Knox wrote. "Releasing Singletary would save $1.5 million in 2025 cap space while erasing his $5 million 2026 salary from the books."
Singletary failed to make a positive impact after signing with the Giants to be the starter to begin the 2024 season. He made just five starts while appearing in 15 games, recording 113 carries for 437 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns, averaging just 3.9 yards per carry. He also added 21 receptions for 119 receiving yards.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Singletary. The depth chart isn't chock-full of talent to the point where New York must part ways with the veteran back.
Though Tracy and Skattebo are projected to be the starting tandem in the backfield, Singletary only has to beat out Eric Gray and Dante Miller, though the latter has displayed some impressive explosiveness.
Schoen and Daboll seem to hold Singletary in high regard, which stems from the time they shared in Buffalo.
Anything can happen in the NFL, though, so it wouldn't be a major surprise if New York cut ties with Singletary at some point before the final season of his contract.
