Even with the Thunder and Pacers competing for a championship, the Spurs arguably have the most ideal situation in the NBA going forward. San Antonio's core has been crafted by elite front office management, drafting the last two Rookies of the Year in Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle without giving up either to acquire All-Star guard De'Aaron Fox.
That nucleus alone would garner praise, but somehow, the Spurs had the ping-pong ball gods on their side again and landed the second pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.
San Antonio has endless avenues to explore, with one analyst suggesting they should package some of these premium assets to bring in a multi-time MVP.
In a recent column by Bleacher Report's Andy Bailey, the NBA analyst pitched the Spurs shipping Harrison Barnes, Keldon Johnson, Castle, the number two pick, and a pair of future firsts in exchange for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
"Milwaukee would instantly go from totally stuck to on its way toward a meaningful rebuild. And with two top-flight prospects (Castle and potentially Dylan Harper) already in place," Bailey wrote. "The Spurs, meanwhile, would suddenly have one of the biggest and most talented frontcourts in league history with Giannis and Victor Wembanyama. And their games would complement each other brilliantly."
It's unlikely San Antonio would have to give up the second pick, future capital, and Castle, with it far more likely only two of those pieces would be on the table.
Giannis is already 30, with only a few years left on his current deal, which indicates he can largely dictate his next destination and drop the cost to acquire him.
A deal could hinge on how much the Bucks value Rutgers product Dylan Harper, who could be a franchise cornerstone and All-NBA-level talent.
The 19-year-old could be a better fit for the Spurs' youth movement and could instantly form a stellar backcourt with Fox.
San Antonio might have to say thanks, but no thanks, to the Greek Freak.
