Falcons' recently signed $4 million veteran predicted to be ousted by exciting UDFA

The Atlanta Falcons are buzzing with excitement as the season draws near. The team is entering the second year of both the Raheem Morris era and the Michael Penix Jr. era. The two share a great relationship, and the future looks bright for Atlanta’s quarterback room. However, one veteran isn’t exactly happy. Kirk Cousins now has nowhere to go following the Aaron Rodgers deal, leaving the Falcons stuck with his contract.

“That stinks for Cousins, and the Falcons may not be too thrilled about running out of trade options either. While Atlanta has said it is ‘comfortable’ keeping Cousins around as its backup, general manager Terry Fontenot can’t be eager to hand out a $27.5 million salary to his QB2,” Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox wrote.

Despite that situation, the Falcons have a very promising future, including undrafted free agent Cobee Bryant, who may turn out to be an absolute steal.

“Atlanta would have the best UDFA class of pickups they have ever had. With Kansas Jayhawks defensive back Cobee Bryant looking like a lock to make the team, then help to lock down the secondary in Atlanta,” Yahoo Sports’ Josh Petry wrote.

With Bryant lighting up camp and the cornerback room, projections show he will likely beat out veteran Mike Ford for one of the final remaining roster spots.

“Keith Taylor and Mike Ford Jr. are the cornerbacks who don’t make it, as we like Cobee Bryant to shine enough in camp to earn a roster spot as an undrafted free agent,” Wolf Sports Staff wrote.

Ford recently signed a deal with the Falcons, marking his second stint with Atlanta.

“The Atlanta Falcons signed cornerback Mike Ford, the organization announced Monday. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter last Wednesday, March 12. Ford's deal is reportedly for two years and worth $4 million,” Falcons’ reporter Terrin Waack wrote.

If Bryant continues to impress, there is a very real chance Ford could be left off the roster. It was surprising that Bryant wasn’t drafted.
