It didn't happen quite as much in the dead of night as the Luka Doncic blockbuster trade from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers.
But when the Miami Heat acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo late Monday night from the Milwaukee Bucks, plenty of NBA fans were surely already asleep.
They're waking up to some major news.
It's NBA Draft day on Tuesday, but many are just learning that the Bucks finally went through with a Giannis deal.
MORE: Why the Bucks traded Giannis to the Heat
ESPN's Shams Charania had the full details in his breaking news post on X at 11:50 p.m. ET.
The Heat get Giannis and Bobby Portis from Milwaukee.
The Bucks get Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks (including No. 13 this year, one pick swap and one second-round pick.
It's not on the same shock value scale as the Luka trade, which came in the middle of the season and essentially no one saw coming.
Here, Giannis had been in rumors for months, and the Heat had been widely reported as one of the finalists to land him.
The suspense wasn't so much if Giannis would be traded, but to where and for what.
Now, that has all been answered.
The Bucks now line up with two picks in the lottery on Tuesday night to start moving toward their future.
The Heat have gutted their depth but added a superstar.
MORE: Giannis legacy with the Bucks remains intact
Other teams, like the Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves, missed out on Giannis and have to regroup with whatever their new plans might be going forward.
It's certainly the kind of news that might create a different sort of buzz if it happened a few hours earlier. But apparently NBA teams enjoy completing trades in the middle of the night.
