Cincinnati Reds announce roster decision on former Padres, Twins pitcher

The Cincinnati Reds announced a wave of roster moves before their series against the Milwaukee Brewers this week.

MLBTR.com's Darragh McDonald wrote (on 6/22):

"The Reds announced that right-hander Pierce Johnson has been reinstated from the 15-day injured list and that righty Julian Garcia has been selected to the roster. The Garcia move was reported yesterday. To open space for those two, they have optioned righty Zach Maxwell and designated righty Chris Paddack for assignment."

Paddack, 30, was picked up by the Reds in May, and posted a 6.04 ERA with the Reds over 22+ innings pitched. The former Minnesota Twins and San Diego Padres starter has had a rough go of things in MLB over the past several years, and he will likely have to search for a new squad after clearing waivers. Chris Paddack has made nine starts this season with both the Marlins and Reds, and his ERA sits at 6.96 over 53 total innings.

Chris Paddack DFA'd by Cincinnati Reds

CBSSports also hit the news of Chris Paddack being let go of another MLB team:

"The 30-year-old righty has now been booted off a 40-man roster for the second time this season, after the Marlins previously released him May 11. Paddack didn't perform any better during his five-week stint in Cincinnati and now owns a 0-7 record, 6.96 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 39:19 K:BB in 53 innings over 13 appearances (nine starts) between his two stops."

If Paddack is not claimed off waivers (which feels likely), he will likely be released by the Reds and officially become a free agent.

In his younger years, Paddack was able to put together a few servicable years with both the Padres and Twins, but considering he can't overpower anyone with his fastball, and walks have been an issue, production has been hard to come by for Paddack.
