While the addition of Michael Pittman Jr. was huge for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team still needs someone else in the receivers room to step up.
Pittman will flank DK Metcalf as the Steelers' No. 2 receiver after the team failed to adequately address that role in each of the past two years.
But the options behind those two are question marks, with unproven players like rookie Germie Bernard and Roman Wilson headlining the options for the No. 3 receiver role.
There is some early hope that Bernard can be a valuable contributor from Day 1, though.
Steelers beat writer Mark Kaboly noted how Bernard looks advanced for a rookie and it doesn't look like the early stages of his transition to the league are too much for him.
“He’s advanced for a rookie. I don’t even know how I could put it in better terms," he stated on Kaboly and Mack. "Normally, there’s receivers that come in, rookies that think they’re in shape, that think that they can make that transition quickly, are pretty much shocked for the first couple of days or first couple of weeks or months. He seems like he’s picking up really, really quickly.”
Of course, it's premature to write Bernard's name in pen when it comes to him having a sizeable role in 2026, but this is no doubt a good sign for him.
On top of beating out Wilson, which is very possible with how disappointing the Michigan product has been over his two seasons, Bernard must earn the trust of Aaron Rodgers if he wants to see the field.
That is never easy for a rookie to do, but it's clear Bernard has a good chance to do what he must to get in Rodgers' good graces with what he has shown thus far.
