It's been a tough three decades for Canada's NHL teams, as no Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup since 1993. Still, few teams can say their history holds a candle to that of the Montreal Canadiens.
The Canadiens won a Stanley Cup in nine consecutive decades in the 20th century, emerging as a powerhouse both before and after the NHL expanded beyond six teams.
A franchise riddled with greats is looking to establish another era of dominance, with Nick Suzuki, Juraj Slafkovsky and Lane Hutson setting the stage for what could be a long-awaited journey back to the top.
Here's a look at how many Stanley Cups the Canadiens have won in their history.

How many Stanley Cups have the Canadiens won?
The Canadiens have won an NHL-best 24 Stanley Cups, winning their first in 1916 and their most recent in 1993.
That means Montreal won a championship 24 teams in a span of 78 years, or once every 3.25 years, from 1916-93, a remarkable run that made the Canadiens synonymous with the NHL itself.
Of course, it certainly helped that the NHL only had six teams until expanding to 12 with the 1967-68 season. The Canadiens have been less successful over the last three decades in part because winning a championship every 3.25 years, on average, is virtually impossible over a long period of time in a league comprised of 32 teams.
With that being said, no other team in NHL history has been as successful as the Canadiens from the standpoint of championships.
Last time Canadiens won the Stanley Cup
The Canadiens haven't won the Stanley Cup since 1993, when they defeated the Los Angeles Kings in five games to capture their first championship in seven years.
While the league has expanded a handful of times since then, making it harder for teams to string together championships, few could have expected in 1993 that Montreal would go more than three decades without another Stanley Cup. The Canadiens have returned to the Stanley Cup Final only once since then, making a surprise run in 2021 despite finishing just 24-21-11 in the regular season.
2026 marks only the Canadiens' fourth conference final appearance since their 1993 championship.
