George Linde dismissed dangerous-looking Sanju Samson in the fifth T20I between India and South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, December 19. Samson departed for 37 runs off 22 balls, which included two sixes and four boundaries as India lost their second wicket for 97. With the scalp, Linde provided the Proteas their second breakthrough in a must-win game for the Proteas. He also completed his revenge after being smashed for a six by the same batter in his last over.

The dismissal came in the 10th over of India’s innings. Linde bowled a flighted delivery that drifted in and landed around middle and leg. Samson backed away and was deceived by the length. The ball straightened past the outside edge to crash into the middle stump. The wicketkeeper-batter failed to consolidate, unable to make the most of his good start.

Notably, Sanju Samson replaced injured Shubman Gill in the playing XI for his first game in the series. It was his first game after missing six games on the trot, including three T20Is in Australia.

South Africa remove India openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma to fight back against India in the 5th T20I

Corbin Bosch and George Linde helped South Africa bounce back in the fifth T20I against India by dismissing Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, respectively. Bosch dismissed Sharma for 34 off 21 to break the 63-run opening stand.

At the time of writing, India were 111/2 after 11.3 overs, with Tilak Varma and skipper Suryakumar Yadav at the crease.

The hosts have taken an unassailable 2-1 lead in the five-match series after the fourth T20I was abandoned due to excessive fog in Lucknow. The Men in Blue won the series opener by 101 runs in Cuttack before clinching the third T20I by seven wickets in Dharamsala. Notably, the Suryakumar Yadav-led India haven’t lost a T20I series since their 2024 T20 World Cup glory.

Meanwhile, the Aiden Markram-led side won the second T20I by 51 runs in Mullanpur. The tourists lost their last T20I series to Pakistan 2-1.
