Gavin Doty already revealed his Gerry McNamara plans before Syracuse hire

Syracuse Orange men's basketball fans are trying to figure out what Gerry McNamara will do with the roster for the season ahead.

One name that SU supporters are circling is Gavin Doty, who was a star for McNamara at Siena.

Doty has actually already more or less said what he plans to do now that McNamara has been officially announced as Syracuse's new head coach.

After Siena's upset bid fell short against Duke last week, Doty told reporters, "I plan on playing for G-Mac through my whole career."

Well, it would only follow then that Doty would transfer to Syracuse.

It would be an even more logical fit for Doty when you consider he's from Fulton, which is about 25 miles north of SU.

Doty just averaged 18.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game this season for the Saints. He shot 45% from the floor and 32% from 3-point range.

The 6-foot-5 guard has played a pair of college seasons, meaning McNamara would still have him for multiple campaigns in Syracuse.

It would be a nice fit for Doty, who has certainly earned a chance to transfer to a bigger program if he wants to, but would still get the familiarity of McNamara if he comes to SU. It's a best-of-both-worlds kind of situation for the talented guard.

McNamara will have to do more work in the transfer portal, and in retaining some of the players Syracuse already has.

Starting his new roster with Doty, regardless of what else happens, is a solid place to be.
