Juan Carlos Ferrero recently gave an interview explaining his side of things following the end of his tenure as Carlos Alcaraz's coach. However, that hasn't gone down well with fans. The two sent shockwaves through the tennis world after announcing the end of their partnership a week ago.

Their split was all the more surprising considering Alcaraz's success in 2025, claiming eight titles from 11 finals. Ferrero stepped in as Alcaraz's coach when he was just 15 years old in 2019, and guided him to 24 career titles, including six Majors.

To put a rest to the constant speculation surrounding their split, Ferrero sat down for a chat with the Spanish news outlet Marca. He stated that while he intended to continue working, things hit a rough patch while renewing his contract. Their relationship could've been salvaged had they communicated more clearly but that wasn't the case.

"From the environment of Carlos think of the best for him and me from my own in the best for me. There have been certain issues on which we have not agreed on the two parties. It may have been that they could have been saved if we had sat down to talk, but in the end we have not sat down and we have decided not to continue. This is really what happened," Ferrero said (translated from Spanish).

Ferrero then went into detail about the ups and downs of their collaboration. When fans read the complete interview, they felt as if Alcaraz was being thrown under the bus by his former coach.

They took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their frustrations. One user praised Ferrero's alleged manipulaton of public perception, while another wondered about the lack of an NDA for him to be airing their dirty laundry.

"Ferrero’s PR game is excellent. Carlos doesn’t. Just getting attacked when it should be clear to all that the fact that JCF bashed him indirectly in Marca & Clay mag (while omitting real reasons for contract breakdown) then encores w a “poor me” interview is utterly unacceptable," wrote one user. "I don't get why he’s fueling the hate toward him and esp his family when you've already won over the public," commented another user. "The fact that there's zero sign of an NDA is honestly wild to me," said another. "It’s also telling that Juan Carlos Ferrero literally chose to go to a tabloid with a history of attacking Carlos Alcaraz. If y’all don’t see a problem with that then lol," wrote one user. "Private! Stop explaining yourself!," said a user.

Neither Ferrero has moved on to coaching another player nor has Alcaraz announced his replacement. However, the 22-year-old isn't without a coach at present. Samuel Lopez, who worked as an assistant coach to Ferrero, will shoulder all responsibility from now on.

Samuel Lopez was already a part of Juan Carlos Ferrero's camp, and the two go way back. He was added as a second coach to Carlos Alcaraz's entourage in December 2024.

Following Ferrero's departure, Lopez will now shoulder the responsibility of mentoring Alcaraz. This could end up being a permanent solution, or until a new head coach is hired.

Prior to Alcaraz, Lopez worked with Pablo Carreno Busta for a decade until 2024. He led his compatriot to seven career titles, two Major semifinals, and a career-high ranking of No.10.
