Former Yankees All-Star Robinson Cano reaches incredible baseball milestone

Professional baseball has been around for a very long time, and there's been plenty of legendary hitters to make their way through the annals of history at the plate. The New York Yankees have seen many such hitters make their mark on baseball history.

Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra, and, most recently, Aaron Judge are just a few players who've made incredible history thanks to their Yankees tenure.

Recently, some more history was made, except it wasn't Judge passing another home run record. Instead, former Yankees superstar Robinson Cano reached 4,000 career hits in the Mexican League at 45 years old, over a decade since he last played for the Yankees.

As the Diablos Rojos MX posted on Twitter/X, Cano reached his 4,000th career hit in the Mexican League, as he went 2-for-5 for Diablos Rojos del Mexico.

4,000 imparables. 4,000 momentos que quedarán en la historia.

Cano joins the 22-member 4,000 hit club, as he's one of baseball's most prolific hitters in history. With the Yankees, where he spent nine seasons of his Major League career, Cano had 1,649 hits, the team where he notched the most hits in his career.

After nine years in New York, he signed a huge deal with the Seattle Mariners before making his way to the New York Mets in 2019.

He was suspended the entire 2021 season for PEDs, and then in 2022, he rounded out his MLB career with the San Diego Padres, the Mets, and the Atlanta Braves. He had just 15 hits in his final MLB season, though in Triple-A, Cano secured 32 hits.

Cano's 4,000 career hits won't impact his Hall of Fame candidacy, but it does further solidify his standing as one of baseball history's best hitters. Pete Rose, with 4,909 hits, stands atop the baseball world, while Ichiro Suzuki is third all-time with 4,619 hits.

Between winter ball in the Dominican Republic, his time in the Major Leagues, Minor Leagues, and Mexican Leagues, Cano's 4,000 career hits put him with some incredible company.

Reaching 3,000 hits is impressive enough as it is, and Cano, after 25 years playing professional baseball, reached his 4,000th hit on Saturday, September 13th, as he became just the 22nd player to reach 4,000 hits in a baseball career.

Cano has 2,639 hits in Major League Baseball, and this season in Mexico, he has 137 hits with a .372 batting average and a .999 OPS in 86 games played at 42 years old. He's carved out an impressive resume and is one of only 22 players in baseball history to reach 4,000 hits in a career.
