On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers traveled to Detroit to take on the Lions in a game that had massive playoff implications for multiple teams in the NFC.

The Steelers, who were firmly in control of the AFC North, handled their business and walked out of Ford Field with a win in one of the more strange finishes you’ll see in the NFL this season.

Despite the wild ending to the game, one moment from the first half dominated headlines, and rightfully so.

In the 2nd quarter of the game, a Lions fan called Steelers WR DK Metcalf over to the stands, and, probably unwisely, Metcalf indulged him.

It’s still unclear exactly what was said from the fan to Metcalf, but the result was the Steelers WR grabbing the fan by the shirt and taking a good swing at him. Something that wasn’t initially flagged but was sure to draw attention from the league.

Well, the punishment officially came down from Rodger Goodell, and not only will it harm the Steelers for the rest of the regular season, but DK Metcalf may have unknowingly lost out on millions of dollars.

DK Metcalf two-game suspension leads to loss of millions

When you talk about costly mistakes, the decision DK Metcalf made on Sunday is about as costly a mistake as you could make.

Part of Metcalf's guaranteed money in his contract was contingent upon his not missing any games for any reason. By being suspended these last two games, not only is he missing out on roughly $555k in game salary, but $45M of guaranteed money on his contract is now voided.

This is not something the NFL tolerates on any level, and now that he’s seen the consequences of his actions, this is a mistake that Metcalf will surely never make again.
