Former NBA ROY kept exposing Jason Kidd for 10 years

A former NBA player finally feels heard after 10 years of speaking out. Michael Carter-Williams saw a post about Jason Kidd and responded. His words lit up the basketball world this past week.

The Dallas Mavericks officially ended Kidd's coaching run after 5 seasons on May 19 of this year. The team described the split as a mutual decision.

Kidd had led the Mavericks to the 2024 NBA Finals as their head coach. However, the team then missed the playoffs in the 2 seasons that followed that run.

An X user shared what a Nike executive once said about Kidd and his coaching style. The executive claimed Kidd excels at strategy and player development but becomes insufferable over time.

His words carry real weight because he played under Kidd with the Milwaukee Bucks. Carter-Williams joined the team from 2014 through 2016, right after winning Rookie of the Year.

Their player-coach relationship never clicked during those 2 seasons together in Milwaukee. Carter-Williams has said in past interviews that meeting his childhood idol was a disappointment.

He felt the coaching style hurt him off the court in real and lasting ways. This was clearly not a casual remark from someone far removed from the actual situation.

The Mavericks also traded superstar Luka Doncic and hired Masai Ujiri as team president for a complete organizational reset. Some fans mocked Carter-Williams online, calling his post nothing but sour grapes.

Others agreed that strong coaching talent does not always mean people want to keep working with you year after year. The debate over Kidd and his leadership style continues across the league.
