Mississippi State's Jack Bauer wears 24 and throws 100 as he chases MLB dreams

Jack Bauer is a lanky left who pitches for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

He also happens to throw 100 miles per hour, and he does it while wearing the best jersey number: 24.

He's just a freshman, and he's doing this in the SEC tourney:

And yes, Jack Bauer's parents actually named him after the protagonist from the hit TV show 24.

The Jack Bauer in that show was played by Kiefer Sutherland, who told MLB.com he has heard about the prodigy.

"To see someone excel at that level at such a young age, and the fact that he has the last name Bauer and his parents chose to call him Jack. ... It's kind of fun for me," Sutherland said. "Like I said, I'm not the most avid baseball fan, but now I've got something to root for."

Bauer is a legitimate MLB prospect, although his commitment to Mississippi State was firm enough that he wasn't chosen in the 2025 draft out of Lincoln-Way East High School in Illinois.

He was reported even before arriving at the college level that his fastball had touched 103 miles per hour.

Bauer did wear 24 in high school, as well. Before the 2025 draft, he said he had yet to watch the show.

"Sometime in the future, I do plan on watching it," Bauer told MLB.com. "I've heard great things."

Right now, Bauer is busy blazing fastballs past hitters.
