John Cena has only three more appearances left before he calls it a day in the ring. The WWE icon is set for his farewell match on December 13, with a tournament to determine his last opponent already underway.

It is expected that being an old-school star, Cena will go out on his back and put someone over in his final WWE outing. However, veteran Scott D'Amore, who served in TNA in various roles, has warned against such an outcome.

In his column, the D'Amore Drop on Uncrowned, the Canadian wrestling promoter said WWE should do away with the tradition of a star losing his last match.

"Forget the “time honored tradition” cr*p, John Cena’s last match should send people home happy. They are already going to be sad that a legendary career is over. It is the end of an era for a lot of kids that are now middle-aged with kids of their own. Don’t beat their hero on the way out the door," he wrote.

D'Amore added that he sees no upside to anyone beating Cena at the conclusion of his year-long retirement tour. He said the Last Real Champion might want to lose, but that's not the way to go in this case. He also warned WWE against upsetting fans with the decision.

"WWE has to know this. The fans spent all summer absolutely refusing to accept Cena as a heel — they will not accept anything other than a win in his last match. WWE must know that. We’re capping off an unbelievable career here by a man who is defined by setting a record for meeting terminally ill kids. A hero. This can be either a celebration or a wake. I know which one I’d prefer to attend," he added. [H/T: Uncrowned]

It will be interesting to see how WWE books the last three dates of Cena's in-ring career. The Last Time is Now tournament is already underway, with Sheamus and Rusev advancing to the next round.

John Cena could compete on his final RAW appearance

This week on RAW, John Cena beat Dominik Mysterio to win the Intercontinental championship for the first time in his career. With this win, he finally became a Grand Slam Champion.

Now, it is possible that he may even defend the title next week on RAW, which will be his final appearance as an active star on the company's flagship show.

Ahead of next week's show at Madison Square Garden, Netflix dropped a trailer on its YouTube channel to hype the occasion. The video description read that it will be "one last match" for John Cena at the storied arena.

A farewell match on RAW in the world's most famous arena will have the fans excited.
