So far this offseason, the Philadelphia Phillies have made a few key roster moves. Kyle Schwarber is back on a five-year, $150 million deal, Brad Keller signed for two-years at $22 million, and Matt Strahm was dealt to the Kansas City Royals.
Their other big move was a $10 million one-year deal with Adolis Garcia. He's going to take over for Nick Castellanos in right field and, in turn, force Castellanos out of Philadelphia.
But former Phillies player Erik Kratz on Foul Territory is warning the Phillies that they will regret cutting ties with Castellanos. He's all but certainly going to be cut or traded, and yet, Kratz thinks it'd be a mistake for the Phillies to move on from him this offseason.
Erik Kratz warns Phillies about cutting ties with Nick Castellanos
"It's not very nice to Nick," Kratz said. "You also want to look up on Baseball Reference how many errors Nick has in the outfield: 0. One of two guys who shows up in the playoffs for the Phillies on a year-in and year-out basis is Nick Castellanos."

— Foul Territory (@FoulTerritoryTV) December 24, 2025While Castellanos has had his fair share of playoff moments over the years for the Phillies, this past season was one to forget.
He was the worst fielder by advanced metrics, and while he is recorded as having zero errors all season, a huge part of that statistic is that he doesn't have the range to put himself in a position to receive an error.
Castellanos isn't a good fielder, and his offense took a major step back this past season. And with a $20 million price tag and his mid-season butting heads with Rob Thomson, Castellanos' future in Philadelphia is all but certain.

The Phillies are going to part ways with Casetllanos this offseason; the only question left is how. A trade won't be easy, especially with how much he struggled and his expensive contract. An outright release is the most likely outcome for the Phillies.
All of the reporting this offseason so far has indicated that the Phillies are going to move on from Castellanos, and the Garcia signing all but confirms that Castellanos doesn't have a place in the lineup going forward.
Kratz's warning is likely to fall on deaf ears, as the Phillies have shown every indication that they will move on from Castellanos this offseason.
His time in Philadelphia is likely to come to an end, despite how much Kratz says the Phillies will regret it. Castellanos had some great moments, but after 2025, the Phillies are expected to move on from their $100 million 2022 signing.
