ESPN reveals odds Blue Jays trade Kevin Gausman by MLB deadline

The Toronto Blue Jays haven't had the kind of season they were hoping for after coming just one win away from a World Series title a year ago.

Now, with the MLB trade deadline just a few days away, it's become increasingly likely that the Blue Jays will wind up as sellers for the deadline. They have some players of note who could be dealt, with Kevin Gausman being one of the most important.

But what are the odds of Gausman actually being traded? ESPN's Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan revealed the updated odds of a Gausman trade, which were fairly high at 75%.

"13. Kevin Gausman, RHP, Toronto Blue Jays. Chance of being traded: 75%," Passan and McDaniel project.

Gausman might be a good pitcher on a $110 million contract with an eight-team no-trade list, but there is a good chance that the right-hander is on his way out of Toronto this summer.

He made a start at home on Saturday, August 1, against the St. Louis Cardinals in what might be the last start with the Blue Jays in his MLB career. If it was his final outing, it wasn't a bad one.

Gausman went 5.2 innings, allowing nine hits, but only one run while striking out four. He lowered his season ERA to 4.38, a bit of a drop from the 4.51 ERA he had coming into this start.

But, even though he's not been the All-Star caliber pitcher that he was for many seasons in Toronto, he's still someone the Blue Jays could fetch a good price for.

He's a rental starting pitcher who would provide some high upside to a contender in a deal. That upside, plus his pedigree in the big leagues across his 14-year MLB career, should help the Blue Jays land something decent in exchange for him if he's traded.

Daulton Varsho and Shane Bieber could also be dealt this summer, but Gausman's the top prize, and should bring back the best return.

He also has a 75% chance of being traded, which are fairly high odds for someone so important to this Blue Jays team over the last five years.
