The odds of the Philadelphia Eagles trading for Minnesota Vikings star edge rusher Jonathan Greenard skyrocketed two days before the start of the NFL Draft.
Well-respected insider Ollie Connolly shockingly revealed that a Greenard-Eagles trade was virtually a done deal, leaving many to believe it would become official at some point during the draft. On the second day of the highly touted offseason event, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the rumors were indeed true and Greenard was the newest member of the Eagles’ organization.
"Trade: Vikings are sending former Pro-Bowl LB Jonathan Greenard to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a third-round pick tonight (No. 98) and a third-round pick next year," Schefter reported.
"Greenard and the Eagles reached agreement on a four-year, $100 milllion extension that includes $50 million fully guaranteed, per his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey."
Landing a high-level pass rusher became a top priority for Philadelphia after Jaelan Phillips departed for the Carolina Panthers during the early stages of free agency. Greenard is the trade option that appeared to be the most logical fit from the get-go, as his previous success as a top-tier edge rusher (12.5 sacks in 2023-24 and 12 sacks the next season) and effectiveness against the run make him one of the better players at his position.
Although Greenard’s 3.5-sack 2025-26 campaign was disappointing, the Florida product earned a solid 77.6 PFF pash-rush (Pro Football Focus) grade, 77.8 run-defense grade, and 74.2 overall PFF grade during his second season with the Vikings.
Losing Phillips was a tough blow, but replacing him with Greenard, who’s still in his 20s, is undoubtedly the best-case scenario for the two-time Super Bowl champions.
