The Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly completed a second interview with an offensive coordinator candidate on Wednesday.
According to NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark, the team hosted Jim Bob Cooter for a second interview. Cooter is the second coordinator candidate known to get a second look from the Eagles throughout this process.
The Link to Nick Sirianni
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has a past with Jim Bob Cooter. The two worked together on the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012. At the time, Cooter was an offensive quality control coach.
Since then, he held positions with the Denver Broncos and the Detroit Lions. In 2014, Cooter was hired to coach quarterbacks in Detroit before getting the bump to offensive coordinator in 2016. He held that position until 2018, when he was hired by the New York Jets to coach running backs.
Jim Bob Cooter and Nick Sirianni linked once again in 2021. He wasn’t officially on the coaching staff, but held a position as an independent consultant.
“Obviously, he's got a lot of experience and he's a great football mind. I think very highly of him,” Sirianni told reporters at the time of his reveal.
Since his project with the Eagles, Cooter held a passing game coordinator role with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022. Then in 2023, he joined former Eagles OC Shane Steichen on the Indianapolis Colts’ staff.
Who Else Landed a Second Interview?
The Eagles reportedly hosted Sean Mannion for a second interview. The former third-round pick out of Oregon State played for several teams from 2015 to 2023. He joined the Green Bay Packers’ coaching staff, landing a job as an offensive assistant.
Last year, Mannion was bumped to quarterbacks coach. While it’s not clear if Mannion is the favorite in the clubhouse for the Eagles, he’s clearly gaining some steam alongside Jim Bob Cooter as one of the leading candidates to replace Kevin Patullo.
