Spurs make decision on trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo to help Victor Wembanyama, per report

The San Antonio Spurs are among the teams that haven’t been heavily involved in the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes this season.

Franchises such as the New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors, and Miami Heat have been deemed the most logical suitors for the Milwaukee Bucks superstar.

According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, the Spurs have made a decision on potentially pairing Victor Wembanyama with Antetokounmpo to create an unstoppable duo in San Antonio.

"I have been told by folks with the Spurs that we're not a home for Giannis," MacMahon reported Wednesday.

While the Spurs’ roster would significantly improve with Antetokounmpo in the fold, it’s clear they’re far more interested in keeping their young intact and showing the rest of the league that they’re a team built for long-term success.

After exhibiting encouraging progress last season, San Antonio has taken a massive leap forward this year. The Spurs boast an impressive 31-15 record, possess the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, and have defeated the reigning-champion Oklahoma City Thunder three times in four attempts.

Assuming Wembanyama can avoid a season-ending injury, and San Antonio receives impactful contributions for multiple key assets, there’s no reason to believe the five-time NBA champions won’t be in the mix for a title come playoff time.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Spurs manage the rest of the 2025-26 season.
