Draymond Green gets brutally honest about having to play on Christmas Day

It’s safe to say that Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green isn’t a big fan of having to play on Christmas Day.

While Green acknowledged that playing in front of a national audience on the holiday is an honor, he also lamented the fact that players are forced to be away from their families during the time.

“Playing on Christmas Day also f--king sucks,” Green said on a recent episode of his podcast. And the reason it sucks is, number one, what I—what I just said, it can affect your mood. Number two, we are human beings and, just like everyone else, enjoy Christmas Day with our families. That kinda gets messed up for us.

“They’re in their homes or on vacation with their families, making memories," he added. "We don’t—we don’t get that opportunity. So I hate when people are like, ‘Oh man, it’s an honor to play on Christmas Day.’ People should shut up. Like, no—you should shut up, because whether you played on Christmas Day or not, I don’t—I don’t really care about the perspective.”

Green is obviously entitled to his opinion, but the average fan doesn’t really want to hear a player who is getting paid over $25 million this season alone complain about having to work for a few hours on a holiday when millions of other people across the country also have to work on said holiday for a whole lot less.

Does Draymond think that the concession workers who fill arenas on Christmas want to be away from their family on the holiday? Or the sports writers who have to cover the games? Of course they don’t, but sometimes it’s just what you have to do, and having players complain publicly about it is a bad look for the league, straight up.

Luckily for Green, with the way the Warriors are trending, they probably won’t be back in a marquee matchup on Christmas Day for a while.
