The Cleveland Cavaliers have not had the 2025-26 season they were hoping for. Before the campaign started, people were expecting the Cavaliers to be the #1 seed again, as they won 64 games in the 2024-25 season.
That has not been the case because they have already lost more games this season than in the previous campaign. The Cavaliers have been learning amid the struggles and are well on their way to being a top team with this recent win streak.
Mitchell remains level-headed despite the streak
Before the season started, the New York Knicks and the Cavaliers were widely considered the favorites to win the Eastern Conference. Now, they are next to each other in the standings in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Those are not the spots people expected them to be in before the season tipped off. However, both teams have suffered through many losing streaks this season, which is uncharacteristic for both teams.

Moving forward, the Cavaliers look like the more promising team of the two, especially with this recent win streak. They look comfortable playing in their system again. This will become even better when the team gets healthier.
"We held them to under 100 points, that’s big time from us as a group. I’m not even worried about the winstreak. Let’s find a way to get better each day. It’s time we handled our business. We dug a big hole for ourselves," Mitchell said after their most recent win on Monday.
It can be challenging for the Cavaliers to return to their status as contenders, but it is possible. The teams above them in the standings can be superb, but they do not have as high a ceiling as the Cavaliers.
At the end of the day, the Cavaliers are still fighting for a shot to return to the upper echelon of the Eastern Conference. It was difficult for them to mount a comeback into the top five, but they have done that well.
This can be challenging, but Mitchell's star power alongside the rest of the core will do their best to keep this momentum going.
