Dolphins linked to $48 million Packers CB who has coin-flip trade odds

The Miami Dolphins have a major need at cornerback that they need to address this offseason. It was an issue last year, and it's not been improved despite some investment.

With former Green Bay Packers personnel in Jeff Hafley and Jon-Eric Sullivan now leading the Dolphins, former and current Packers players are clear fits in Miami.

A Packers cornerback would be an obvious fit in Miami. And according to ESPN, a Packers CB who makes $9.9 million per-year, who was linked to the Dolphins, has coin-flip odds to be traded this offseason. If the Dolphins guess right, this could be a great fit.

Dolphins get coin-flip odds on trade for Packers CB

Nate Hobbs is the Packers' cornerback who could be on the move this offseason, and according to ESPN's "Potential team fits," the Dolphins are one of four options alongside the Detroit Lions, Carolina Panthers, and Buffalo Bills.

ESPN's "Predicted chance of getting traded" for Hobbs comes in at 50%, which is not bad odds for the Dolphins to land a new starting cornerback.

Hobbs, as ESPN's Ben Solak notes, is better off in the slot than playing outside. That slot-preference for Hobbs might "limit interest in Hobbs' services."

But the Packers' cornerback is on a $48 million contract over four years, and he can be cut this offseason to save over $8 million in cap space. But the Packers could instead trade him and bring back some value.

The Dolphins, with the Packers' defensive coordinator now the head coach, could add Hobbs as a player Hafley is familiar with.

He didn't have a productive 2025 season, playing 11 games and making just five starts with no interceptions. But Hobbs is a veteran cornerback who could be a nice addition for a Dolphins defense that needs multiple corners this offseason.

It won't cost much for the Dolphins to acquire him in a trade, as the Packers might simply cut him this offseason anyway.

This fit makes a lot of sense, and with this coin-flip prediction from ESPN, the Dolphins seemingly have a 50-50 chance to trade for a veteran cornerback who has experience playing in Hafley's defense.
