Dolphins hire new play caller in former Texans OC to replace Mike McDaniel

The Miami Dolphins made their first big decision of the offseason by hiring Jon-Eric Sullivan to be the new general manager.

They followed that decision up with Jeff Halfley, also from the Green Bay Packers, to be their new head coach. While Hafley replaced Mike McDaniel in the HC seat, the Dolphins still needed to find a new play-caller.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Dolphins have hired their new coordinator. Schefter reports that Bobby Slowik, the former Houston Texans OC and Dolphins pass-game coordinator, will become the new play-caller in Miami.

Dolphins hire Bobby Slowik as OC, play-caller

"Source: Dolphins are hiring their senior passing game coordinator Bobby Slowik as their new offensive coordinator," Schefter reports. "Slowik also interviewed for the Eagles OC job."

This Dolphins hire is a big one. Hafley is a defensive-minded head coach, meaning the offensive coordinator would be the senior-most offensive mind on the team.

Slowik was with the Dolphins last season, and while the passing attack wasn't anything incredible, the play from Tua Tagovailoa and the struggling wide receiver room are likely more to blame.

He was also with the Texans a few years ago, but the offense in Houston struggled a ton, leading to the Texans firing Slowik. It was a concerning stint for the young OC, but now, it looks a bit different.

Initially, Slowik's production with the Texans in 2024 was a red flag, but after C.J. Stroud struggled in 2025, especially in the playoffs, there's a lot more optimism with Slowik.

This is a nice hire from the Dolphins, as they keep someone familiar with the team in-house, and also take a reasonable chance on Slowik building an offense in Miami that lands him a head coaching job in the future.
