Jon M. Chu’s Wicked: For Good arrived in theaters on November 21, 2025, officially wrapping up the two-part adaptation of the 2003 stage musical. The film brings back Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, along with Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, and Michelle Yeoh.

The film follows Elphaba as she becomes a fugitive accused of treason, while Glinda rises in political influence. As hidden truths about Oz surface, the former friends confront betrayal, corruption, and their intertwined destinies, leading to a final reckoning that reshapes their lives.

There is no mid- or post-credits scene in Wicked: For Good. The film simply ends with Elphabha's future remaining a mystery.

Instead of teasing future installments or adding extra narrative threads, Wicked: For Good allows its final scenes to stand on their own. The film leaves viewers sitting with the full weight of their story, much like the stage musical’s original ending.

The closing scenes bring Elphaba and Glinda’s journeys to a grounded and emotional conclusion, highlighting their choices, sacrifices, and the bittersweet divide that ultimately shapes their futures.

At the end of Wicked: For Good, Elphaba fakes her death when Dorothy throws a bucket of water on her. She slips away through a hidden trapdoor, rather than melting. Soon, she is secretly reunited with Fiyero (now a Scarecrow) and the two leave Oz together, heading into the desert beyond.

The absence of a post-credits scene is intentional, as it preserves the sense of mystery surrounding Elphaba’s fate, similar to the hanging mystery that made the stage musical’s ending so impactful.

In both versions, Elphaba survives by faking her death, reunites with Fiyero, and secretly escapes Oz. Glinda remains behind to restore order and carry the weight of the truth alone.

The film does, however, add a few expanded character moments and visual details that the stage show could only suggest. Glinda’s final scenes are given more emotional depth, and the Grimmerie’s magical flutter offers a subtle hint of Elphaba’s continued presence.

Notably, Jon M. Chu highlighted in a chat with the People magazine that he wanted to conclude the story within two movies. In an exclusive interview published on November 21, 2025, the Crazy Rich Asians director stated:

"This is their adult selves looking back at their childhood dreams, that are now shattered in front of them. So when you look back, I think people will see only both movies as one, not just the first movie and the second movie. I'm excited to complete the story for people."

Wicked: For Good is now playing in theatres. Stay tuned for more updates.
