Dodgers might finally promote 'MLB-ready' 27-HR prospect they stole from Red Sox

The Los Angeles Dodgers have Andy Pages on the injured list, and he might miss most of the final month of the MLB regular season. He could return in time for the playoffs, but there is some uncertainty.

That leaves Kyle Tucker and Teoscar Hernandez in the outfield, which might normally be a good thing. But both outfielders have struggled enough that the Dodgers might need to find a replacement. Fortunately, they have a dearth of prospects to choose from.

Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter highlighted the "MLB-ready" outfield prospect James Tibbs III, the left-slugger they stole from the Boston Red Sox at last year's trade deadline.

"The Dodgers have a wealth of exciting young outfield talent, but none is more MLB-ready than James Tibbs III, who has spent the entire 2026 season crushing Triple-A pitching," Reuter writes. "With a .360/.490/.640 line over 98 plate appearances in August, he is swinging it well enough to warrant a call-up."

Thanks in part to Pages hitting the injured list and Tommy Edman manning second base, the Dodgers could have reason to promote Tibbs to take over an outfield spot.

Benching Tucker might not happen, especially in the first year of a $240 million contract. But he's been such a huge disappointment that if he can't turn things around soon, the Dodgers might be forced to act.

Regardless of their Tucker decision, benching Hernandez in favor of Tibbs would make sense. The 23-year-old outfielder they got from the Red Sox last summer for a few months of Dustin May.

This season for the Dodgers, entirely at Triple-A, he has a .298 batting average with a .974 OPS in 121 games and across 447 at-bats. He has 96 runs scored, 133 hits, 28 doubles, three triples, 27 homers, 95 RBIs, and 92 walks with 121 strikeouts.

The left-handed power-hitting outfielder would be a nice September call-up once the roster expands to 28 players. The Dodgers need a bit more help offensively, and Tibbs would certainly provide that.

With Tucker and Hernandez struggling, and Pages on the IL, the Dodgers should look to promote Tibbs to the big leagues as the most MLB-ready OF in the farm system.
