At the moment, the New York Yankees have a very thin, overworked bullpen.
On Wednesday, the Yankees learned that right-hander Fernando Cruz has a partial tear in his UCL.
That could shut down Cruz for the rest of the season and most of next year if Tommy John Surgery is recommended.
In recent days, the Yankees have added Justin Topa and Michael Fulmer to their bullpen mix. At this stage of their careers, they are mostly journeymen who bounce back and forth from Triple-A and the Majors.
New York's front office failed to add a single reliever at the trade deadline, and it's starting to impact the AL East club.
Now, the Yankees could dip back into the free agent market for another veteran reliever.
"Source: The Yankees are among teams that have at least checked in on Zack Littell, who cleared waivers today after being released earlier this week by the Diamondbacks," the New York Post's Joel Sherman wrote on X.
Littell, 30, was hit hard during his short stint with the Arizona Diamondbacks, allowing 10 earned runs on 21 hits, including five home runs, in just 12 innings.

He began the season with the Washington Nationals and posted a 4.97 ERA in 24 appearances with the NL East club. Littell made 14 starts with the Nationals but has spent most of his career in the bullpen.
The Yankees are looking to piece things together until Ryan Weathers and Clarke Schmidt return from the IL.
Littell could be a solid innings eater but not much more.
