The Los Angeles Dodgers haven’t had their full lineup firing offensively in the playoffs just yet. From top to bottom, they have one of the best lineups in baseball, a fact that has been evident since the start of the season. However, in the postseason, their offense has appeared and disappeared unpredictably. After Tuesday’s loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, manager Dave Roberts offered a brief comment on the team’s struggles at the plate.
“We haven’t found our rhythm,” Roberts told the media.
The Dodgers need to figure something out quickly. After the game, Roberts made it clear that changes could be coming for Game 5.
“Dave Roberts said the lineup ‘might look a little bit different tomorrow,’” The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya posted.
One player to watch is Andy Pages, who is known for his defensive prowess but has been in one of the biggest postseason slumps in recent memory.
“Andy Pages grounds to second and is now 3-40 this postseason. It's been time for a change,” Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain posted.
Pages has been somewhat shielded by Tommy Edman’s ankle injury. Edman was forced to play his position on Monday and appeared fully capable, suggesting to Roberts that he might be ready for the remainder of the postseason.
“Edman in CF, Call in LF and Kiké at 2B makes way too much sense. I guess Edman's ankle must still be pretty bad if he can't be an option in CF,” Dodgers writer Blake Harris wrote.
It will be interesting to see what adjustments the Dodgers make on Wednesday, but all signs point to Pages possibly being out of the lineup. The team is clearly willing to make tough moves to spark their offense.
One way to ignite production is to remove struggling players from the lineup. Unfortunately for Pages, it seems he may be the odd man out.
