Did Garrett Wilson get traded? Explaining Jets' NFL deadline decision

2 hours ago 2

The New York Jets were a very busy team at the 2025 NFL trade deadline. While the Jets made just two trades, they were by far the biggest moves of the deadline.

New York traded Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts for two first-round picks and Adonai Mitchell. Later in the day, they sent Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys for a first-round pick, a second-round pick, and Mazi Smith.

After those two stunning moves, the Jets were seemingly open to any trade at the deadline. Teams began to call about one player in particular: wide receiver Garrett Wilson. With teams interested, did the Jets actually trade another young core member of the team?

Did the Jets trade Garrett Wilson?

The New York Jets, despite selling off both Williams and Gardner, decided not to trade Wilson. Not only did they keep Wilson, but Connor Hughes of SNYtv reported that Wilson was "untouchable" in trade talks.

Spoke to a team that called the #Jets recently about WR Garrett Wilson. With Sauce Gardner dealt, feeling around the NFL is anyone can be had.

Not the case with Wilson. Conversations did not progress. He's untouchable.

Despite plenty of interest and the chance to land more first-round picks, the Jets passed on all offers for Wilson. New York is holding onto their star receiver, as the 25-year-old will stay with Aaron Glenn and the Jets for the foreseeable future.

The 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year is a huge part of the future of the Jets, as he's signed on a mega-deal worth $130 million through the 2030 season.

In six games played so far this season, Wilson has 36 receptions for 395 yards and four touchdowns. He's missed a few games for the first time in his NFL career, but has still been a huge part of the Jets offense.

In his NFL career, he has 315 receptions on 525 targets for 3,644 yards and 18 touchdowns. He's capable of highlight reel catches and has been a reason to watch the Jets each of the last four seasons.

He'll be even more important going forward, as the Jets look to use all of their recently acquired draft capital to land a new franchise quarterback.

Wilson will be the number one target for that new quarterback, as Glenn and Mougey want to keep the young star receiver in New York. Wilson wasn't traded, and won't be dealt anytime soon.
