Quinnen Williams trade: Skip Bayless gets honest on Cowboys’ playoff chances after acquiring All-Pro DT from Jets

Quinnen Williams is now a Dallas Cowboy after a stunning trade on Tuesday. But Skip Bayless thinks it will be immaterial to the team's playoff hopes.

On Tuesday's episode of Underdog Fantasy's The Arena: Gridiron, the veteran sportscaster recalled learning about the trade. He had gone to sleep thinking that Jerry Jones had blown his Monday tease on Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson, whom the Cowboys received in exchange for a seventh-round pick:

“But then, just before the show started, we heard Quinnen Williams and all of a sudden, Jerry sucking me back in, lured back in, because Quinnen Williams man, he's a player."

However, he still thinks that it will not matter (at 03:00):

"But are we going to make the no, we're not going to go from three and five to making the play. Making the playoffs. So that's over and out."

One person who is more optimistic than most about the trade is quarterback Dak Prescott. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Nick Harris happened to pass by him in the locker room, and he responded when asked about it:

"I'm f--king pumped. You can quote me on that."

In exchange for losing Williams, the Jets received Mazi Smith and two draft picks (second round in 2026 and first round in 2027).

Quinnen Williams, Sauce Gardner trades were too good to pass up, says Jets GM Darren Mougey

Also joining Quinnen Williams out of East Rutherford is fellow All-Pro/Pro Bowl defender Sauce Gardner. The cornerback went to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for wide receiver Adonai Mitchell and two first-round picks, one each in 2026 and 2027.

In an extraordinary press conference held on Tuesday, Jets general manager Darren Mougey acknowledged that while parting ways with players like them was "never easy", he could not ignore the offers shown to him:

“You’re set on what these values are, what they’re really worth and these players and what you might be willing to do to part ways with them. We got to today and had these offers that we just felt were too good for the team, and we made that with Sauce and Quinnen.”

To potentially replace Gardner, the Jets also surrendered a conditional 2028 seventh-round pick to acquire Ja'Sir Taylor from the Los Angeles Chargers.
