DJ Akademiks recently discussed Doechii's new verse in the song Girl Get Up, in which the Tampa-based rapper seemingly responded to Adin Ross' allegations of being an "industry plant." For those uninformed, Ross first purported this claim during one of his livestreams in May 2025, where he also called the rapper a "b*tch" and "unintelligent" while reacting to a clip of her allegedly snapping at her staff at the Met Gala.
In the song Girl Get Up, released on December 30 featuring SZA, Doechii hit back at claims of being an "industry plant," accusing critics of praising male rappers while putting her down. She also called out the misogyny in the rap industry, promising to expand more on that in her new album. While the rapper did not mention Adin Ross by name, many online believe the verse was directed at the streamer due to the "industry plant" reference.
"All that industry plant shit whack/ I see it on the blogs, I see you in the chats/ You suck every rap n***a d*ck from the back/ But what's the agenda when the it girl black?/ Y'all can't fathom that I work this hard/ And y'all can't fathom that I earned this chart," she rapped.DJ Akademiks addressed the song during a subsequent livestream, suggesting that accusations of Doechii being an industry plant were credited to her immediate rise to success. He further added that her audience seemed more "inflated," claiming her fans elevated her to make her seem more popular than she was.
"I do think Doechii has an audience. Now, is that audience more inflated? I would say yes, because when I hear about her...they make it seem like she's bigger than what I believe she is on a mainstream level. Not saying she don't got no audience, but they try to make it seem like she's bigger than what she is," Akademiks continued. What did Adin Ross say about Doechii?
In his recent Rumble livestream, DJ Akademiks continued to explain why many accused Doechii of being an industry plant. However, he did concede that the rapper might be beloved in a world he wasn't in tune with, adding:
"I've never, in my history of covering the music business, had an industry plant admit they were an industry plant... Now, it's really one of two things, and I don't wanna belittle anything you're ever done. It is a complete possibility that you have an audience, maybe there's a world where Doechii is really popular, and she's really beloved in a world that we're not in tune with."Akademiks further added that his lack of contact with such a world resulted in streamers like himself, Adin Ross, and Joe Budden feeling like her accolades are without any merit and may be bought or paid for. He also said that Doechii receiving accolades so early in her career gave off "plant vibes," pointing out that Doechii won Best Rap Album for Alligator Bites Never Heal during the 2025 Grammys while Nicki Minaj has yet to win a Grammy.
He further added that he did not have a problem with Doechii seemingly targeting Adin Ross in her new song, calling some of the streamer's previous comments about her "mean-spirited."
For those uninformed, a clip of Doechii seemingly snapping at her staff and asking for more umbrellas to cover her outfit from the paparazzi ahead of the Met Gala went viral online this May.

"Oh, Doechii rant? Don't get me started on that b***h. Hey, don't get me started on that b***h! Don't get me started on that industry plant. Don't get me started! You guys can say whatever you want about me, but one thing about me is that I am not an industry plant. I've been streaming for, like, a long time now," he said.Adin Ross also accused Doechii of ripping off Gotye's Somebody That I Used To Know for Anxiety, despite the rapper acknowledging that she sampled the track.
"F**k Doechii! The clip pissed me off! What an entitled, unintelligent piece of s**t she is, bro! Bro, I'm not joking, bro, stop listening to her music. Carti and Able, why would you give her a feature on the remix?... She's just the worst! She's just a piece of s**t. She stole someone that I used to know. She makes no good music. She's horrible! So f**k Doechii. F**k Doechii! F**k Doechii! F**k Doechii!" Adin Ross ranted.Additionally, Adin Ross appeared on a livestream with DJ Akademiks days after this incident, claiming to have lost two brand deals presumably due to his remarks about Doechii.
Doechii has previously collaborated with SZA, her fellow TDE labelmate, on the 2022 remix of Persuasive.
