Starting the list with an underrated pick is The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy. Created by Spike Chunsoft of Danganronpa fame, with illustrator Rui Komatsuzaki returning to flaunt his signature anime character designs. While the team is known for its visual novel entries, this new game combines graphic adventure elements with challenging turn-based strategy RPG combat.

Paired with the sci-fi post-apocalyptic narrative where a group of students must defend an academy from incoming hordes of enemies, this makes for a journey like no other. The game was released on April 24, 2025, on PC and Nintendo Switch platforms.

Hazelight Studios returns with yet another stellar co-op showcase in the form of Split Fiction, starring protagonists Mio and Zoe, unsuspecting applicants at a video game company who get sucked into a virtual world formed by their own ideas. Switching between sci-fi and fantasy themes, this two-player multiplayer adventure is brimming with creative ideas and fun set-pieces that keeps the experience fresh.

Each player must work in tandem with one another to overcome the puzzle and platforming challenges the game throws at them; this involves exhilarating chase sequences, stealth segments, and brainteasers that demand mastery over the heroines' unique abilities. It can be purchased on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 platforms.

3) Sword of the Sea

Players missing minimalist adventure games in the vein of Journey and ABZU need not fret, as Sword of the Sea scratches that same itch. As the Wraith, players will embark on a quest to restore a lost ocean across a breathtaking cel-shaded world while surfing on a magical sword. This story of survival and hope is stunning in each frame, with unique mindblowing set-pieces in tow.

Parkouring across sandy dunes and giant pillars never gets old, especially paired with the vibrant scenes starring colorful wildlife such as orcas, swordfish, and more. Intrigued players can grab the game on PC and PS5 systems.

2) Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector

A successor to the original Citizen Sleeper, Starward Vector is a more ambitious CRPG adventure in the same universe. Once again starring an Android, the Sleeper, players will create their own path forward by navigating the Starward Belt to form a crew and take on challenging contracts to earn money. This is the most emergent series entry yet, with Disco Elysium-esque narrative paired with dice-roll decision making.

With a variety of people to meet, each with their own goals, motives, and personalities, no two playthroughs of Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector will be the same, making this engrossing story one of the most must-play 2025 games. It is on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

1) Dispatch

Sitting at the top of this list is Dispatch, the surprise hit of 2025. This graphic adventure takes more than a few pages from Telltale Games' repertoire of cinematic narrative experiences and combines them with some of the best aspects of other games on this list. Players control Robert Robertson III, an ex-superhero tasked with overseeing a group of reformed villains as they aid citizens in need.

The star of the show is the central narrative, brimming with lively characters and funny humor, as the protagonist must contend with the skewed dynamic of having to manage a group of powerful heroes, which can result in frequent moments of friction. This is accomplished by making active decisions on the map to solve crimes and minigames to ensure heroes come back safe with minimal accidents, which can change how the heroes engage with the player.

Dispatch is on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S with Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions arriving on January 28, 2026.
