Arsenal have quite a haul of new additions to their squad at hand in this ongoing summer transfer window.
Along with new arrivals, the Gunners have also parted ways with some, and one such name is Thomas Partey. The 32-year-old star was reportedly in talks with Arsenal to extend his contract, which expired at the end of June, but an agreement could not be reached.
Partey joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 for a reported €50m and has made 167 appearances for the Gunners, during which he netted nine goals and seven assists.
After departing the Emirates as a free agent, the Ghanaian star is now reportedly ready to return to La Liga.
Partey is set to join Villarreal for the upcoming season, according to The Athletic.
Why did former Arsenal star Thomas Partey opt for La Liga club Villarreal?
Partey has reportedly undergone a medical and is anticipated to pen a two-year contract with Villarreal through to 2027.

The aforementioned report also suggested that Partey's interest in joining Villarreal stems from the opportunity he would have to play in the Champions League in the upcoming campaign.
Villarreal concluded their 2024/25 season with a fifth-place finish in La Liga.
If Partey and Villarreal close the deal soon, the midfielder might have a chance to face his former club Arsenal in the Gunners' preseason friendly against the Spanish club on August 6 at the Emirates Stadium.
