The Buffalo Bills got some brutal news on Sunday.
Head coach Sean McDermott revealed to reporters that star wide receiver Khalil Shakir is "week-to-week" with a high ankle sprain.
Shakir was hurt on Thursday. He was blocking on a run play, and he was rolled up on. He limped off to the side and sat on the training table to get some work done.

It's clearly not what the Bills want.
Sure, it's better for Shakir to be hurt now than in December. But he's the most reliable WR in their offense, and any time without him isn't a good thing.
Last season, the Bills embraced an "everyone eats" mentality in their passing game, but Shakir was the constant within that.
He had 76 catches, 821 yards and four touchdowns. He was great after the catch out of his slot position.

Shakir has been one of the great finds in recent years for Buffalo. Listed at 6-foot and 190 pounds, both of which seem exaggerated, Shakir was a fifth-round pick in 2022 out of Boise State.
As a rookie, he had just 10 catches.
As a second-year player, he upped it to 39 grabs for 611 yards, showing promise.
But it was last year that Shakir showed he can be a legitimate NFL star.
The Bills brought in new wideouts this offseason in the former of Josh Palmer and Elijah Moore. Keon Coleman is expected to take a leap in his second NFL season.
Really, though, Shakir is supposed to bring it all together. He's the leader of this group, steady and smooth and stellar. Buffalo needs him, and right now, his ankle sprain is keeping him off the field.
