Denver Nuggets get rough news on Cam Johnson's injury

The Denver Nuggets received more bad injury news on Wednesday.

Forward Cam Johnson is out four to six weeks with a right knee injury, per ESPN's Shams Charania. Johnson suffered a bone bruise in his right knee in the fourth quarter against the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday.

Johnson is averaging 11.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists this season. He's shooting 46.1% from the field and 42.9% from 3-point range.

It's the first season in Denver for Johnson, who was acquired by the Nuggets in the offseason. The Nuggets traded forward Michael Porter Jr. and a 2032 first-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets for the veteran wing.

Johnson is the third Nuggets starter to go down recently, including Aaron Gordon and Christian Braun. Gordon has dealt with a hamstring injury and has not played since Nov. 21. Braun has only played 11 games this season due to an ankle injury.

One player who the Nuggets may turn to is forward Spencer Jones, who's already seen an increased role recently. Jones, who's played 20+ minutes in each of Denver's past three games, is averaging five points and 2.2 rebounds this season.

Head coach David Adelman could also deploy smaller lineups with Bruce Brown at a forward position.

Johnson was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in the 2019 NBA Draft. He spent four seasons in Phoenix before playing with the Nets for three seasons. He's averaged 12.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and two assists in his NBA career.

The Nuggets (21-8) are No. 3 in the Western Conference, four games behind the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder.
