Shannon Sharpe gives his take on the new NBA betting policy
Shannon Sharpe on Saturday on an episode of his show “Nightcap” gave his take on the league’s new policy on betting.
“You bet whatever you want to bet," Sharpe said. “They also trying to limit the number of prop bets.”The league on Friday announced stricter rules around sports betting. This comes after the FBI’s large-scale gambling investigation that included arrests of NBA Miami Heat guard and Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups, who is linked, allegedly, to illegal betting and organized crime.
Prosecutors alleged that individuals used non-public insider information from players and coaches to profit from illegal bets on NBA games. They also alleged that some bets generated hundreds of thousands in winnings and were placed using confidential league data that shouldn’t have been available publicly.
Another indictment also charged 31 defendants, including Billups, with rigging high-stakes underground poker games. These games allegedly used cheating tools and were tied to members and associates of major organized crime families.
