Damon Stoudamire buyout, contract details as Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets coach

Damon Stoudamire is in the third year of a five-year contract as head coach of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, with the agreement running through April 30, 2028.

The former NBA guard signed the deal in 2023, and his compensation package places him among the better-paid coaches outside college basketball’s traditional power programs. Also, being in Atlanta put him in a city on the rise in the college basketball scene.

For the 2024-25 season, Stoudamire earned approximately $2.18 million in total pay, which rounds to about $2.2 million. All of that compensation came in school pay. His contract structure includes annual raises of $100,000, increasing his base compensation each year through the life of the deal. In addition, Stoudamire can earn up to $1.05 million in performance-based bonuses tied to postseason appearances and other terms of his contract.

Damon Stoudamire buyout terms

According to figures reported by USA TODAY Sports, Stoudamire’s school buyout as of spring 2025 was $4 million. However, industry sources told ESPN’s Jeff Borzello that if Georgia Tech were to make a coaching change at the end of this season, Stoudamire would reportedly be owed less than $3 million.

The financial discussion comes amid on-court struggles. Stoudamire entered this season with a career coaching record of 78-95 at Georgia Tech. He is 42-52 overall through three seasons in Atlanta, with the Yellow Jackets currently sitting in last place in the ACC despite a roster viewed as having competitive talent.

What now complicates matters is the athletic director, J Batt who hired Stoudamire, is no longer at the school. This adds uncertainty as the program evaluates its future direction.
