Dallas Mavericks fall victim to winter storm

It's not just schools that are experiencing delays across the United States due to winter storm conditions affecting more than half the country. The Dallas Mavericks are also impacted. Last night, they hosted the Lakers at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, but lost 116-110 in Luka Doncic's return.

Dallas Mavericks' departure to Minnesota delayed by winter storm.

The Mavericks are scheduled to play the Timberwolves in Minnesota later tonight at 7 PM ET. Typically, NBA teams would leave for away games between 5 AM and 8 AM to allow sufficient travel time, but that is not feasible under the current weather conditions.

Reports surfaced on Sunday afternoon that the Dallas Mavericks' team plane was still waiting to take off from the Dallas metroplex. According to Marc Stein, the Mavericks were still on the plane less than six hours before their scheduled 7 p.m. ET tip-off in Milwaukee.

An Arctic blast blanketed the entire North Texas region in ice overnight, turning highways into sheets of packed slush and pushing temperatures below freezing for extended periods. This weather event occurred as the Mavericks hosted the Lakers on Saturday night and prepared to fly out to Minnesota on Sunday. Most of the region was under a winter storm warning for the majority of the weekend, with forecasters predicting up to half an inch of ice and sleet across the area. Officials urged residents to stay off the roads as the Mavericks attempted to travel to Minnesota for their game on Sunday.
