Current AEW champion details almost signing with WWE

A reigning champion in AEW recently came out to reveal details about how close she came to signing with WWE before joining the Jacksonville-based promotion.

That star is Harley Cameron, who recently became the inaugural AEW Women's Tag Team Champion alongside Willow Nightingale at Winter is Coming 2025. The duo, known as Babes of Wrath, defeated Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa (the Timeless Love Bombs) in the tag title tournament final to win the championship. The Australian star, popular for her unorthodox in-ring abilities and spot-on comedic timing, recently had a candid conversation in which she revealed that, before signing with Tony Khan's promotion, she had almost joined WWE.

Speaking on the Ariel Helwani show, Cameron initially discussed her brief time with the Stamford-based promotion, thanking it for helping her learn the craft.

"I will say thank you to them, because thanks to them I have my green card. Thanks to them I learned to wrestle, they helped me with wrestling training to Flatbacks."

The Aussie star went on to explain why she joined All Elite Wrestling over WWE:

"I believe they went through a transitional stage where, in their office, certain people were released from the company, they went through some big changes, and I guess fate just didn't lead me in that direction, and in the interim of not knowing what was going on, had an opportunity to be at AEW Dark, then I had another opportunity there, and was offered the contract with (All Elite Wrestling)." Tony Khan defends decision to have Harley Cameron & Willow Nightingale win AEW Women's Tag Titles

The Babes of Wrath (Harley Cameron and Willow Nightingale) winning the Women's Tag Titles was well received by the live audience, but it later drew scrutiny from fans online, who questioned Tony Khan's decision to make them the inaugural champions.

On the AEW Worlds End media call, Khan defended his decision, stating that Willow and Cameron had earned the opportunity and worked hard to win the titles. He also noted that the duo are apt representatives of his company.
