Cubs' Pete Crow-Armstrong locks up NL MVP with 40/40 MLB history

The Chicago Cubs are fighting to try and secure the NL's top Wild Card seed, and in the process, Pete Crow-Armstrong is trying to solidify his NL MVP status.

In the final game of their series against the Miami Marlins, PCA drew a walk in the bottom of the first inning and then stole second base for some incredible MLB history.

As Jesse Rogers of ESPN shared, Crow-Armstrong stole his 40th base of the season, which should officially cement his status as the NL MVP, if there was any doubt left.

"Pete Crow-Armstrong is the 7th player in MLB history to join the 40/40 club after swiping his 40th base of the season in the bottom of the 1st inning against the Marlins," Rogers shared. "He has 45 home runs to go along with his 40 stolen bases."

Crow-Armstrong reached 40 homers a while ago, and the stolen base mark was the last hurdle to clear. With four games to go, he cleared it in the first inning as the Cubs try to secure a postseason spot in a competitive NL Wild Card.

Entering play on Thursday, September 24, Crow-Armstrong had 9.8 bWAR (most in MLB) in 158 games played with 45 homers and 39 stolen bases.

Now, he's headed towards a 10.0 bWAR season, and he's already locked up the seventh 40-homer and 40-stolen-base season in MLB history.

On top of those elite power and base-stealing numbers, PCA also has 119 runs scored (most in MLB), 172 hits, 31 doubles, eight triples, 107 RBIs, 81 walks, a .280 batting average, and a .949 OPS before Thursday's 40/40 milestone was reached.

It also cannot be forgotten that PCA has a case as MLB's best defender this season, playing elite defense out in center field for the Cubs all season long.

While there might've been some calls for Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the NL MVP this season with his elite two-way production, there is zero chance anyone else will win this award.

It was likely already locked up coming into play on Thursday, but Crow-Armstrong officially reaching MLB's seventh 40/40 season has locked up this award. He should be the unanimous NL MVP, as he's easily been baseball's best player this year.
