Cowboys' DaRon Bland gets $90 million contract update

6 hours ago 1

The Dallas Cowboys have followed their usual extension pattern with DaRon Bland.

Rather than give him a market value contract a bit early, the Cowboys have waited, and it'll cost them.

SI's Albert Breer reported that Sauce Gardner is close to an extension.

The Jets cornerback should get at least the three years, $90 million that Derek Stingley got from the Texans.

And if Sauce gets paid like that, the Cowboys get backed into a corner with Bland.

He had a bigger 2023 than 2024, but he's still a key piece to what Dallas does. And at 25 years old, he could still be around for a long time.

It's just a bit unfortunate that the deals stack up pretty much automatically. Bland's contract value is almost directly a result of whatever Stingley and Gardner ended up signing for.

That does point, yet again, to the fact that maybe Dallas should have signed Bland to his extension earlier.

By the same token, how early is too early? What if there are more data points still to  come?

Regardless, it's just about time for the Cowboys to give Bland a contract extension offer. And the reality is going to be, he gets the bag, no matter what.
