CM Punk is set to defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Bron Breakker on the January 5, 2026, episode of WWE RAW, the show's first anniversary on Netflix. Breakker pinned Punk in the Men's WarGames Match at Survivor Series to earn this opportunity.
The title match seems unpredictable, as both are formidable competitors. However, if The Second City Saint retains the World Heavyweight Title, his victory celebration could be spoiled by the returning Chris Jericho.
Y2J is reportedly WWE-bound after his AEW contract expires at the end of December. While many would expect the six-time World Champion to return at Royal Rumble, the Triple H-led creative team could pull off a shocking swerve and have Jericho come back on January 5.
While The Dog of WWE is ready to cement his place at the top, the Triple H-led creative team may want his crowning moment to happen at a bigger stage. Moreover, CM Punk has yet to defend the title since winning it at SNME XLI in November.
Therefore, The Second City Saint may have a decent reign before dropping the title. That said, Punk retaining may not be the end of the night on January 5, as Chris Jericho could shock the world and make his highly anticipated WWE return.
Jericho and Punk are no strangers to each other. The veterans were involved in a fierce rivalry in 2011-2012. Given how big a deal Y2J's potential return is, he could immediately enter the main event scene, and confronting the World Heavyweight Champion would be an effective way to do that.
That said, this scenario is only based on speculation, and nothing has been confirmed.
Veteran praises CM Punk's reign as World Heavyweight Champion
CM Punk defeated Jey Uso at Saturday Night's Main Event XLI to win the World Heavyweight Championship. Recently, former WCW star Disco Inferno talked about The Second City Saint's reign as the World Champion.
Speaking on a recent episode of Keepin' It 100, the veteran responded to a fan's comment about CM Punk not being a draw as a champion. Inferno praised The Best in the World, stating that he is an excellent professional wrestler who cuts great promos. He added that Punk's numbers prove he is a major attraction in WWE.
"I like Punk, he's the world champion because he cuts an excellent promo and knows how to sell his matches. He goes out there and wrestles a very logical WWE-style match. He's an excellent professional wrestler. I have zero problems with him. He's over, just look at his numbers. You can knock him for the UFC stuff, but beyond that, all the metrics on this guy are really good," he said.It will be interesting to see what's next for CM Punk in WWE.
