Chris Olave contract update: Saints WR opens up about future in New Orleans

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave sent a clear message about his future with the franchise. Olave, 25, joined the Saints in the 2022 NFL Draft as the No. 11 overall pick. After three years with the team, the speculation about his future began, especially amid a tumultuous 2025 season where the Saints have shown potential, but haven't been able to translate that into wins.

New Orleans was mentioned in multiple trade rumors ahead of the 2025 deadline. They moved wide receiver Rashid Shaheed to the Seattle Seahawks after Olave, running back Alvin Kamara and others drew trade buzz.

Speaking on his future with the franchise, Chris Olave revealed that contract talks are underway with the Saints.

"Oh it's in the works. It's in the works," Olave told Kay Adams on her "Up & Adams" show. "I want to be in New Orleans forever. I know it's a tough time right now but I love it out here. I love the people, I love the culture, I love the fans. And I love the new coaching staff and the front office. So we're in the works right now and hope it gets done soon. But like I said, I want to be here for my whole career."

Chris Olave has taken his game to new heights this season. He has been targeted 95 times, catching 60 passes for 664 yards and four touchdowns. The Saints have only two wins to their name, but they appear to be on the right track to compete with the rest of the NFC.

The New Orleans Saints ended up trading one of their young wide receivers ahead of the 2025 NFL deadline. Rashid Shaheed found his way to Seattle in exchange for 2026 fourth-round and fifth-round picks. When Jaxon Smith-Njigba reacted with an eyes emoji on X to express his excitement to share touches with Shaheed, Olave responded with a short message to hype up his former teammate.

"You got a great one bro," Olave tweeted.

The Saints, currently in their bye week, will return to action on Nov. 23 against the Atlanta Falcons. They beat the Carolina Panthers in Week 10 and will try to build momentum with a win over another NFC South rival.
