Chase Briscoe has shared his thoughts on making a breakout season out of his move to one of NASCAR's most successful teams. The Joe Gibbs Racing No. 19 Toyota driver got his first chance to compete for the title this weekend after his Talladega win last month.
Briscoe grew up racing quarter-midget cars and moved into sprint cars by his teens. He moved up slowly after winning the NASCAR development series' ARCA title in 2016 and took the NASCAR Cup Rookie of the Year in 2021. The former Stewart-Haas Racing driver has made it to the playoffs twice before but never reached the final round.
Ahead of the season's final race this Sunday, the Indiana native poured his heart out and talked about the 'surreal' day.
"From a kid with a dream to be a racecar driver and playing with diecast cars and racing video games basically every day, to now today where I get to live out my dream every day… No dream to complete bigger than today's. Racing for a NASCAR Cup Series Championship," Chase Briscoe wrote. "Surreal doesn't even begin to cover it. 🙏 Can't say thank you enough to every single person that's supported me along the way," he added.Briscoe posted a speed of 130.714 mph but suffered a tire issue setback in Friday's 50-minute practice session at Phoenix. He also qualified in 12th as the other Championship 4 drivers, Denny Hamlin, William Byron, and Kyle, took the first three starting spots.
Briscoe has one win at Phoenix, which came in the spring of 2022. His average finish at the one-mile oval sits around 18.4, the last among other playoff drivers. The Cup Series Championship Race will start at 3 pm ET on Sunday, November 2.
Chase Briscoe is 'still trying to do the same thing' on NASCAR Cup championship weekend
Chase Briscoe has collected three wins this season and ties with Hendrick Motorsports drivers, Willian Byron and Kyle Larson. The 30-year-old will try to do the same thing as the past 35 weekends, push for a win.
Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass asked how his first Championship 4 week has gone.
"Trying to embrace it and outside of that, I don't think it feels like any different either. We're still trying to do the same thing every weekend. Just a lot more people," Chase Briscoe said, via X.Briscoe dominated the spring race at Phoenix Raceway. He led 101 laps and secured the win to finish fourth that fall, but his recent results show a downward trend at the short track in Arizona. He placed 35th in the spring race there earlier this year, and his finishes in the last two playoff races were outside the top-23 in the past two years.
However, Briscoe's 2025 statistics have broken several of his previous trends. He also got his first superspeedway win at Talladega.
