Celtics' Al Horford to return in 25-26 for 19th NBA season

The Celtics' postseason finish was their worst since losing to the Nets in the first round in 2021.

They have an offseason full of decisions to make, including dealing with high luxury tax and Jayson Tatum's injury, which will, at minimum, keep him out for most of next season.

One encouraging sign for the Celtics was the announcement of one tenured player intending on returning for his 19th NBA season.

Al Horford to return for 19th NBA Season

It was reported by Brett Siegel of Clutch Points that Horford intends to come back next season.

Horford is a free agent this offseason, so a deal still has to be worked out.

With the possibility of Kristaps Porzingis being traded this offseason, having a player like Horford return will be big for a team managing their forward/center depth.

Luke Kornet is also a free agent this summer, and it is uncertain if he will look to return or sign elsewhere on a bigger contract.

Horford notably took a pay cut a few seasons ago in the middle of his contract to give the Celtics financial flexibility.

With likely a year or so left in his career, it wouldn't be surprising to see Horford on a cheap deal to return with the team he might retire with eventually.

Horford has provided steady production and excelled in his specific role over the past few seasons.

In 24-25 as a 38-year-old he averaged 9.0 PPG, 6.2 RPG, 0.9 BPG and 1.9 3P (one of five players to have those stats in 24-25).

He was also 16th in the NBA in 24-25 with a +6.6 plus-minus on the court.
