The Jayson Tatum injury for the Boston Celtics wasn't just bad news because of the superstar going down at such a young age. Tatum is one of the brightest stars in the NBA and was putting together a historic resume.
However, injuries happen, and all he can do is look toward the future and attempt to get healthy.
Tatum works hard, and if there's one player to count on to return from this type of injury, it's the former Duke star.
However, for the immediate future, the Celtics now have some questions to answer. One of those questions is centered around veteran Al Horford, a fan favorite and champion in Boston.
When looking at his potential contract, The Athletic predicted that he could get a deal worth $18.9 million per season. They added that it might not be with the Celtics because of Tatum's injury, and that he can fit with any team in the league.
“One of the many ripple effects of the Jayson Tatum injury is that Horford might be more gettable in free agency than previously presumed. With Horford at age 39 and the Celtics likely both facing a “gap” year and needing to trim salary, it might make sense for him to hunt for a different contender on a one-year deal.
“Because of his size, shooting and switchability, he can fit virtually everywhere, and suitors should be plentiful; additionally, one suspects this is a situation where the Benjamins will matter less than the team situation and championship equity,” they wrote.
Horford is still a very good player at this stage of his career. Whether it's due to his ability to knock down shots or defend the rim, the veteran has continued to demonstrate that he's valuable to a championship-caliber team.
For that reason alone, there should be many suitors.
