Jennifer Lawrence has opened up about her decision to stop speaking publicly about U.S. President Donald Trump, which is reportedly a notable change from her outspoken stance during his first term.

In an interview with The New York Times for The Interview podcast episode released on November 1, 2025, and reported by PEOPLE on November 4, 2025, the Oscar-winning actress explained that she no longer feels her political commentary has any real effect. The actress reportedly said,

"As we’ve learned election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for"

Lawrence, 35, reflected on how her previous comments, which were often made in frustration, now feel counterproductive, saying that the first term was "wild"

"The first Trump administration was so wild. I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off."

The Oscar acclaimed actress added that her decision stems from not wanting to “add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the country apart,” emphasizing that the U.S. remains deeply divided politically.

More about Jennifer Lawrence's comments about President Donald Trump

During Trump’s first presidency, Jennifer Lawrence was reportedly among the most outspoken figures in Hollywood. In 2015, she told Entertainment Weekly that a Trump victory would mean “the end of the world,” and after his win, she admitted her “head exploded.”

The actress described feeling “helpless” and “devastated” before channeling her frustration into political education and advocacy. By the 2024 election, she publicly endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris, telling PEOPLE, “Abortion is literally on the ballot.”

However, in her latest comments, Lawrence said the landscape now feels different. In her interview with The New York Times, the Hunger Games star said,

“Because he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for four years. He was very clear. And that’s what we chose."

She admitted she “probably” regrets some of her past outbursts and now prefers a calmer approach.

Rather than using interviews or social media to voice political opinions, Jennifer Lawrence said that she has shifted her focus to her professional work. She told PEOPLE that she hopes her films and production choices can reflect her values “without alienating” audiences.

"If I can’t say something that’s going to speak to peace or lowering the temperature, I don’t want to make the problem worse."

Lawrence explained that she prefers to use her platform through her production company, Excellent Cadaver, which has financed several politically charged projects. The company’s recent documentaries include Bread and Roses, exploring the experiences of Afghan women under Taliban rule, and Zurawski v. Texas, focusing on the state’s abortion ban. As reported by PEOPLE on November 4, 2025, she said,

"A lot of movies coming out from my production company are expressions of the political landscape"

This shift marks a deliberate effort by Jennifer Lawrence to engage politically through storytelling rather than direct commentary. The actress added that she wants her work to “change consciousness or change the world” without the distractions of celebrity political debate.

"I want to protect my craft so that you can still get lost in what I’m doing"

Her approach mirrors a broader sentiment among Hollywood figures who have become more cautious about public political statements following years of online polarization. For Lawrence, the goal is no longer to persuade but to create space for understanding through art, a theme she’s reportedly extended to her recent acting projects, including her new film Die My Love.

Jennifer Lawrence bring's up President Trump's "advice" to co-star Robert Pattinson

Despite her decision to step back from political commentary, Donald Trump’s name still surfaced in Lawrence’s recent press tour, this time in a more humorous context.

During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show on October 23, 2025, she revealed that she asked her Die My Love co-star Robert Pattinson about Trump’s involvement in Pattinson’s 2012 breakup with actress Kristen Stewart.

As PEOPLE reported on October 25, 2025, Lawrence admitted she “didn’t hold back” when asking Pattinson about President Donald Trump’s decade-old social media posts on the scandal. In 2012, Trump publicly tweeted that Pattinson “should not take back Kristen Stewart,” calling her unfaithful after photos surfaced of Stewart with director Rupert Sanders.

Everyone knows I am right that Robert Pattinson should dump Kristen Stewart. In a couple of years, he will thank me. Be smart, Robert.

As reported by PEOPLE, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart began dating in 2009 after filming Twilight. Their relationship hit turbulence in 2012 when photos surfaced of Stewart with director Rupert Sanders, prompting public apologies from both. The couple ultimately went their seperate ways in 2013.

Talking about the incident on the show, Jennifer Lawrence said,

"I mean, if you think I didn’t ask him about Donald Trump tweeting about the breakup with Kristen"

Robert Pattinson has since moved on, now engaged to English actress and singer Suki Waterhouse, while Kristen Stewart reportedly married screenwriter Dylan Meyer in April 2025.

Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson talk about sharing the screen

In a full-circle moment, Jennifer Lawrence is now sharing the screen with Robert Pattinson in Die My Love, years after reportedly being rejected for the role of Bella Swan in Twilight.

Speaking to Variety at the New York premiere of Die My Love on November 2, 2025, Lawrence joked that working alongside Pattinson “feels like total revenge” after her failed Twilight audition. She had previously revealed on The Rewatchables podcast in 2023 that the studio “immediately turned her down” and didn’t even offer a callback.

Robert Pattinson, meanwhile, recalled first seeing Lawrence in the 2010 film Winter’s Bone, which earned her an Academy Award nomination and catapulted her to stardom, saying

"It kind of had like an elemental power"

Die My Love, directed by Lynne Ramsay, marks her return to darker material, portraying a writer whose mental state deteriorates under the strain of marriage and motherhood. Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson play an explosive couple locked in an intense relationship.

Die My Love is set to hit theaters on November 7, 2025.
