Just before resuming training for the 2026 campaign, Carlos Alcaraz parted ways with his longtime coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, ending his more than seven-year partnership, resulting in six Grand Slams and 24 ATP Tour singles titles.

A few days after the break-up was announced, Alcaraz's physical trainer, Alberto Lledo Quiles, offered an insight into the World No. 1's preparation for the 2026 campaign. Quiles shared photos from their first week of preseason, increasing workload, as the Spaniard went through medical checks.

"First week of preseason increasing workload, after going through the corresponding medical check, we have hit on isolnerial stimulus which has been the main goal of the physical preparation part," Quiles captioned the post. "Let's go for more working with excitement and eagerness to continue making history of this sport. Thank you @elpozoalimentacion @nike @isdin for supporting us through this process!!"

The post had Alcaraz posing alongside his coaching team, including brother Alvarito, Albert Molina Lopez, Juanjo Moreno, and Samuel Lopez Jareno at the Carlos Alcaraz Academy. The post also included a group photo with the medical team and snapshots of the Spaniard working hard doing several exercises.

Potential reasons behind break-up between Carlos Alcaraz and Juan Carlos Ferrero

Carlos Alcaraz had been working under Juan Carlos Ferrero since he was 15. The partnership has been glorious and successful. Earlier this week, Alcaraz announced that they were parting ways, as the Spaniard expressed gratitude towards the coach for his professional growth and learning.

“Thank you for making my childhood dreams come true,” Alcaraz wrote in a statement (translated from Spanish). “We started this journey when I was just a kid, and throughout this time you have accompanied me on an incredible journey, both on and off the court. And I have thoroughly enjoyed every step of the way with you. “We have made it to the top, and I feel that if our sporting paths had to part, it should be from up there. From the place we always worked for and always aspired to reach…You have made me grow as an athlete, but above all as a person. And something I value greatly: I have enjoyed the process. I will remember that, the journey we have taken together.”

According to some outlets, the breakup stemmed from failed contract negotiations. Ferrero reportedly found the new contract, with tight deadlines, unacceptable. Another possible factor is the strained relationship between Ferrero and Alcaraz's camp, especially his father. One possible reason could be a shift in training centers, as the Spaniard might be looking forward to setting up his base in Murcia rather than at Ferrero’s academy in Villena.
